Chapter 45

Mike and Rainie were walking down the street, hand in hand, as they headed to Rainie’s house. It was late at night and they had just come back from their dinner at Mike’s restaurant. Since Mike was spending the night, they didn’t hesitate to walk longer and remain in each other’s embrace. Finally, when they reached the front porch, Rainie opens the door to a pitch black house.

“Wow, it’s so dark,” Mike said in awe as they walked in. “I bet my voice can echo in here.”

“It’s not that big,” Rainie laughed, flicking the lights on.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Mike frowned, flicking the lights back off.

“I’m trying to watch where I’m going,” Rainie rolled her eyes. “What does it look like? “C’mon stop fooling around, and turn the lights back on…Mike? Mike? Where’d you go?”

Rainie closed the door behind her and flicked the lights back on only to have Mike surprise her with a kiss.

“See, aren’t things better in the dark?” Mike smirked. “Now where was I?”

Mike turned off the lights, and began to kiss Rainie deeply. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he carried her to the couch without ever opening an eyelid; as if it would help. Holding each other close, they giggled and laugh as they gave playful kisses to the other.

“Ah!” Rainie yelped.

“What? What is it?” Mike said in fear.

“The remote’s jamming into my back,” she winced.

“You…wanna…go upstairs?” Mike asked cheekily.

“You’re so perverted!” Rainie laughed.

“Hey! I just asked a question! You assume too much!” he smiled.

“Well?” she smirked back with a bit of excitement.

“I’ll race ya!” he joked with a chuckle down his throat. “Three, Two…ONE!”

Soon, they both bolted for the stairs and lightheartedly tickled each other to make way to the bedroom.

“Stop, I’m going to fall!” laughed Rainie.
Clinging to the banister, Mike grabbed hold of Rainie by the waist and lifted her out of the way so he could rush first.

“HA! LOSER!” he joked.

“HEY!” she teased back as she grabbed him by the collar and suddenly pulled them close.

Leaning against each other at the front of the stairs, they both shyly look at each other and scoffed a bit from embarrassment. Rainie held Mike by the waist while Mike brushed her arms with his hands and went in for another kiss. Slowly, they both close their eyes and their lips came closer…and closer…

Snapping back to reality, Mike and Rainie look at each other with wide eyes and realized that the lights had suddenly come back on.

“I can’t believe this! I seriously CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!” yelled Ariel, completely frustrated for some reason. “How can he say something like that!?”

Oh no, thought Mike and Rainie; they were caught! Stamping her way through the living room, Ariel paced back and forth talking to herself not noticing at all the couple on the side holding onto each other so lovingly and yet so full of shock.

“I’m not in love with Peter! That’s the most preposterous thing I have EVER heard!” she kept ranting as she started going into the kitchen, completely unaware of Mike and Rainie.

“I don’t think she saw us,” Mike suddenly said softly.

“I don’t think so either,” Rainie muttered.

“HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN!” Ariel screamed from afar.

“Ok, yeah she didn’t see us,” Mike nodded. “C’mon, let’s go before she-

“I am SO PISSED OFF!” Ariel screamed.

“Hurry!” Rainie whispered to Mike before slowly tip-toeing up the stairs.

“UGH! How can he say something like this?” they heard Ariel shriek as her voice came closer and closer.

“C’mon Mike, you move so slowly!” Rainie reprimanded.

“SHH!” Mike hushed at her. “She’ll hear us!”

“After everything we’ve been through,” Ariel continued to mutter from afar.

“How far is she?” Mike whispered to Rainie at the middle of the stairway.

“I’d say she’s right in back of us,” Rainie winced.

Closing her eyes tightly, Rainie cringes before turning behind her only to see Ariel make her way upstairs with a sandwich at hand and a pout on her delicate face.

“Oh hey Rainie…” Ariel nodded at Rainie before making her way up the stairs. “Hey Mike.”

Both and Rainie wince just as Ariel says Mike’s name, knowing that they have been caught, but Ariel just kept going forward. Suddenly she stopped at the top of the stairs and turned around to look at Mike, then at Rainie and finally at Mike.

“MIKE!!!” She screamed as she rushed to give them both big hugs. “YES! YES! You guys are back together! Wait…you guys are back together right?”

Mike looked at Rainie and sighed, “Yes, we’re back together.”

“YES!!!!” Ariel screamed again. “HA HA! This is sooo great! OH!!!! Rainie!”

As soon as Ariel called her name, Rainie already groaned and cringed at what was going to happen next.

“YOU DIDN’T TELL ME!!” Ariel pouted hard. “After all the things I did to try to get you back together and this is the thanks I get?!”

“I’m sooo sorry, Ariel,” Rainie sincerely apologized. “But we wanted to keep it a secret before exposing it the way we did before.”

“But,” Ariel frowned. “I’m your best-friend how can you keep this from me?”

“You think I wanted this to happen?” Rainie moped. “I never wanted to keep anything from you! This was so hard, but I had to because I didn’t want to hurt Mike’s feelings.”

“Hey don’t pull me into this!” Mike pled for himself.

“Ariel, please forgive me,” Rainie said, completely ignoring Mike. “I didn’t mean for you to find out like this. I wanted to tell you myself but I never got the chance.”

“Really?” Ariel asked. “You wanted to tell me?”

“Of course,” Rainie nodded as she took Ariel by her arm and swung it playfully. “Forgive me?”

“Ok, Ok,” Ariel rolled her eyes. “I’ll forgive you this time, but its’ only because you look so much happier now.”

Ariel took a breath and realized exactly how happy Rainie was; it had been a while since she had seen her smile. She nodded a little and brushed off her feelings for Joe for just a brief moment. She decided that if she was going to be stuck in between her own love life, she would stop it all together. It was time for her to grow up from her own stupid, silly, frivolous love and focus on something real. Suddenly, she grabbed Rainie and Mike by the shoulders.

“Ok! From now on, I’ll stop being so selfish and focus all my attention on getting your father to accept this relationship!” Ariel proudly stated. “We’ve been way too lazy for these past couple weeks and that is certainly unforgivable!”

“What did you have in mind?” Mike asked.

“Get ready Mike,” she smiled. “It’s time for some Catered Love.”
