Chapter 24

“Get in there!” the officer said to Ariel as he shoves her into a jail cell. “Maybe this time, you won’t run away.

Slamming the door shut the officer leaves Ariel by herself in the cold cell only a few meters away from the other criminals locked up in their own cells, taunting and frightening her so much that it led her to crawl to the very edge of her bed and cry.

Assessing the things that had just happened she grew weaker and weaker. Her past caught up with her. Alex was able to manipulate her till the very end. Kris believed that she had shot Joe. Mike saw what had happened but wasn’t able to stop anything. Joe wasn’t wearing his vest…and what more was that she was in jail for protecting herself. As a defense, she killed her Master and now she was to suffer the consequences. In this cycle of violence, Ariel’s life would end in her own death. Finally she’ll be able to break free from this wretched world, but not for the reason she wanted to.

Everything she’s been through, everything that had happened led her back to a dark cell all by herself, huddled in a corner unable to stop crying and unable to understand why fate would treat her so cruelly.

Slowly her determination began to fade away and she knew that she would never find her own place in this world. Alex was right about one thing and one thing only; she wasn’t meant to live in this world. Not now, not ever. She didn’t belong anywhere and she couldn’t live the life she wanted. After everything that happened, she had to except her future…that she had none.

Being with Mike again and with everyone whom she encountered afterward convinced her that it maybe alright; so she told her heart that it’ll be alright to let them in. As hard as it was to make those friends, picking up the broken pieces of her heart would always be harder. She thought that perhaps she could be that sister Rainie never had, the friend that Kris could always trust, the daughter in law Joe’s mother always wanted, the best friend Mike had always longed for and the only lover Joe would ever need. But she had been wrong all along. The person she tried so hard to find in herself wasn’t her at all.

“It will never end…” she cried to herself.
