愛的蜜方Review So Far (ep 1-17)

Wah! It’s only been a week and we’ve been given 17 episodes out of 35 from this lovely drama. So, let me review the drama midway through. I’ll try not to spoil it for anyone.

Love Actually 愛的蜜方 Mini Review:

At first sight this new C-drama starring Joe Cheng and Lee Da Hae might seem like a contrived version of every other Asian drama out there, but don’t be fooled by appearances. With strong performances from the lead actors and tear jerking moments that are sure to keep the heart palpitating, Love Actually is sure to surprise audiences. This seemingly soft rom-com is sure to tug at heartstrings and, at the same time, cause a chuckle to come out.

The show is half-way through and already exceeding many expectations. The characters are funny, yet complex. The storyline is nothing really new, but still interesting. Even though there are apparent flaws in the show that are sure to cause frustration, such as weird transitions and cuts, the overall story isn’t hard to keep up with. There is a simplicity in the story that is familiar, yet at the same time, the show offers it’s own unique interpretation which keeps the audience on their toes. What I’m most impressed with is the story’s fast paced development, which is most likely caused by having 3 episodes being shown daily.

In all honesty, there were low expectations for this show. Most romantic comedies tend to be all fluff and sparkle, without any depth and realism. However, there’s much that hadn’t been anticipated. Here’s to hoping for an even better second half, and a great finale.
